The Quest for Pionic and Kaonic Nuclear Bound Systems Following Yukawa and Tomonaga
نویسندگان
چکیده
After sketching some historical events related to Yukawa and Tomonaga concerning the birth of mesons, the author describes recent developments in the spectroscopy of pion-nucleus bound states via “pion-transfer” reactions. The role of pions as Nambu-Goldstone bosons in nuclear media is emphasized by recently obtained experimental evidence for the partial restoration of chiral symmetry breaking. New light is shed on K̄ mesons, which play a unique role in forming dense nuclear systems. The basic unit, K−pp, is predicted to possess a molecular structure with quasi-Λ(1405) as an “atomic constituent”. We find here super strong nuclear force produced by a migrating real K̄ meson in the Heitler-London-Heisenberg scheme in place of the normal nuclear force mediated by Yukawa’s virtual mesons.

Chiral Dynamics in Nuclear Systems
A survey is given on selected topics concerning the role of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in low-energy QCD, and its dynamical implications for nuclear systems. This includes aspects of chiral thermodynamics (the temperature and density dependence of the chiral condensate). It also includes an update on the theory of low-energy (s-wave) pion-nuclear interactions relevant for deeply-bound...
متن کاملInterplay between Yukawa and Tomonaga in the Birth of Mesons
Light is shed on the early stage in the birth of Yukawa’s meson theory, particularly on the interplay between Yukawa and Tomonaga in 1933. The discovery of the muon by Nishina’ group in 1937 is also reviewed. It is pointed out that Heisenberg’s attempt to explain the nuclear force in terms of the Heitler-London scheme, overcome by Yukawa and abandoned since then, is now being revived as a mecha...
متن کاملStudy of light kaonic nuclei with a Chiral SU ( 3 ) - based K̄N interaction
We have investigated the prototype kaonic nucleus, ppK−, using the method of Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics (AMD). In the present study we use a realistic NN potential with strongly repulsive core, and a Chiral SU(3)-based K̄N interaction which is energy-dependent and includes both sand pwave interactions. We find that no self-consistent solutions exist when the range parameter of the K̄N int...
متن کاملKaonic nuclear systems K̄N and K̄NN as decaying states
The formation spectra of model KN and KNN systems formed by (K(-),n) reactions are investigated in order to obtain a theoretical basis for a proper interpretation of experimental data concerning kaonic nuclear quasi-bound states. It has been clarified that the experimentally observable kaonic nuclear state K(-)pp should be regarded as the decaying state introduced by Kapur-Peierls, which is dif...
متن کاملFormation of Kaonic Atoms and Kaonic Nuclei in In-Flight (K, p) Reactions
We theoretically study kaonic atom and kaonic nucleus formation in in-flight (K−, p) reactions for C, O, Si and Ca targets. Deeply bound kaonic atoms were previously predicted to exist as quasi-stable states, and it is expected that they can be observed using certain well-suited experimental methods. Kaonic nuclear states have also been predicted to exist with large decay widths. We evaluate th...
